Aseptic Technique
The ability to compound sterile medications allows the pharmacist to provide sterile dosage forms that meet the unique needs of both patients and physicians. This program will examine, in depth, the knowledge, skills and abilities required to compound sterile medications. The goal of this course is to develop aseptic techniques and knowledge of the equipment, sterilization processes, environmental monitoring and quality control required for the preparation of sterile products.
At the conclusion of this Certificate Program the pharmacist will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique and successfully complete a media fill process simulation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization methods including filtration, steam and dry heat processes.
- Demonstrate knowledge of quality control tests required for sterile products including the bacterial endotoxin and sterility tests.
- Demonstrate knowledge of environmental monitoring methods and development of a sampling plan.
