Menthol (L) Crystals USP

Overview

Topical counterirritant and cooling agent supplied as L-menthol (CAS 2216-51-5; C10H20O; MW 156.27). It occurs as colorless, needle-like crystals with a characteristic peppermint odor; is very soluble in ethanol, freely soluble in mineral oil and fixed oils, and slightly soluble in water; and is volatile, prone to sublimation, and forms liquid eutectic mixtures when triturated with camphor, phenol, or thymol.

Key Applications & Uses
