Magnesium sulfate is a chemical compound, a salt with the formula MgSO4, consisting of magnesium cations Mg2+ (20.19% by mass) and sulfate anions SO2−4. It is a white crystalline solid, soluble in water but not in ethanol. Epsom salt crystals, also known as magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, are a versatile product with a wide range of uses and applications. They are commonly used in bath salts and foot soaks to soothe sore muscles and promote relaxation. Epsom salt crystals can also be used as a natural fertilizer for plants, as a laxative for constipation relief, and as a remedy for insect bites and sunburns. Additionally, they are used in the production of various industrial products, such as textiles, paper, and pharmaceuticals.
