Overview

Topical antiseptic and astringent oxidizing agent supplied as potassium permanganate (CAS 7722-64-7; KMnO4; MW 158.03). It occurs as dark purple crystals or crystalline powder with a metallic luster, is soluble in water and freely soluble in boiling water, is decomposed by alcohols and other organic solvents, and must be stored in tightly closed, light-resistant containers away from reducing agents and combustible materials.
